FBI considering new tools to search social media

Based on our knowledge of the Bureau’s investigative capability, we’re guessing this is not about giving the Bureau a capability it doesn’t already have. We suspect it’s a drinking-from-a-firehose problem: if they can’t automate some of these functions, they won’t be able to keep up. From PCMag’s FBI Looking for a Good Facebook-Snooping App:

On Instructables, instructions for making a Cheap Motion Detection Wildlife Camera – for about $20. We bring it to your attention to point out, particularly to readers who work with modest budgets, that higher-tech capabilities may be more affordablethan you think.

Of course, if this costs $20 USD – with its limitations – one would be safe in drawing the inference that more sophisticated tools are in the hands of good investigators – or can be purchased through firms which specialize in selling – and custom-fabricating  – such devices.
